In a forward-thinking collaboration, the Municipality of Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht in the Netherlands has partnered with Sustainder to upgrade their public lighting infrastructure. Facing rising energy costs, the municipality conducted an energy scan that revealed significant potential savings through smart LED luminaires. By replacing 4,700 fixtures with Sustainder’s innovative solutions, they are achieving remarkable results in efficiency and sustainability.
The project delivers up to 39% savings on lighting costs, escalating to 79% with customized dimming profiles. This translates to 550 MWh of annual energy savings—equivalent to the consumption of 230 households—and a CO2 reduction of 360 tons, comparable to planting 14,500 trees. The smart system allows remote monitoring, individual dimming to reduce light pollution, and automatic defect reporting, minimizing maintenance while supporting the municipality’s green goals.
Sustainder’s modular cassette system ensures future-proofing, enabling easy integration of sensors and open API connectivity for broader smart city applications. As Sustainability Councilman Ralph Lafleur noted, “With today’s energy prices, it’s important to make smart savings as a municipality.” This partnership lowers the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and positions Hendrik-Ido-Ambacht as a leader in sustainable urban lighting.
René van de Ven, CEO of Sustainder, added, “This project demonstrates what we can achieve together for a greener future.” Municipalities seeking similar efficiencies are invited to explore Sustainder’s energy-efficient luminaires.
